ABS is proud to offer a growing collection of brachytherapy nursing content and a platform for nurses to connect, discuss practice, and develop resources as a community.
In November of 2022, ABS hosted its first brachytherapy nursing specific symposium and established a platform for the nursing community within the society. The symposium was a great success and ABS looks forward to continuing to provide ongoing educational content, both at future ABS conferences as well as during nursing-specific events.
Historically, brachytherapy nursing resources have been scarce. ABS is committed to creating and providing content for its members, based off of brachytherapy best practices and input from nursing members, acknowledging that while no two teams operate exactly alike, we can share valuable standards.
Our hope is to provide a valuable platform for brachytherapy nurses everywhere and strengthen the knowledge of our practice through this community.
The following competencies provide examples of essential nursing knowledge and skills for the care of patients undergoing brachytherapy. They are intended to serve as a practical framework for nurse supervisors and managers in developing and supporting brachytherapy nursing orientation and onboarding programs. These competencies may be adapted to reflect the specific procedures, patient populations, policies and workflows within each institution and can be used to guide education, clinical training, competency validation, and ongoing professional development.
